Do not get the core, extra distrobution. Core seems to be to strikt to make a fuctional desktop so you'll need the exstra's. If you use the core as a server install ther are a lot of pakkages installed that are not needed. You'll end up pruning your installation.

I think here we have the best ever Linux distro. You have all you need in the basic repository, plus lots of applications and utilities in extras... You have contact with the bleeding edge of linux technology in development repositories... You have sorcecode, you have easy package management and easy update tools... you have tunable performance... you can "kick ass" of the development team and they will never leave you alone... Not to mention that Fedora is stable enought to be use in serious missions in serious entreprises.
